THE GOOD NEWS MAGAZINE 30TH EDITION

STRETCH YOUR COMFORT ZONE - By Justus Ondieki

No way out. This has been my place for many years. I don’t want to move out. This is my place. Why call it my place? Because I was born here. I was raised here. I have my family here. I have friends here. I am well connected here. What else do I want? I really don’t see the need for me to move out from this place. For me I love my work place, my bosses treat me well and they are always there for me. This is a sure place to be, the best place to be! Besides it is comfortable and I don’t need to struggle a lot.

Oh my goodness! The above words are common to us. Ever heard people say any of the words above? I may not know about you but I sure have heard it severally. But today I would love us in this 30th edition of the Good News Magazine to share on “Stretch Your Comfort Zone.” So welcome back our dear readers.
It is often difficult when you are told to do something you aren’t used to do. More so, when God calls you to work for Him. The moment you start acting in obedience to the Lord’s voice and move by faith, things start happening. In the beginning it might seem harder, but as you hold on and persevere, you will definitely begin to see the fruits of obedience.

Now in Deuteronomy 1:6-8 the scripture says, “The LORD our God spake unto us in Horeb, saying, Ye have dwelt long enough in this mount: Turn you, and take your journey, and go to the mount of the Amorites, and unto all the places nigh thereunto, in the plain, in the hills, and in the vale, and in the south, and by the sea side, to the land of the Canaanites, and unto Lebanon, unto the great river, the river Euphrates. Behold, I have set the land before you: go in and possess the land which the LORD sware unto your fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give unto them and to their seed after them”.

From the above scripture we see that Moses had led the children of Israel out of Egypt. Along the way, they were scared, ready to turn around and go back to Egypt. God had parted the Red Sea, led the people through on dry land, drowned the Egyptians, and landed them safely at Horeb, the mountain of God. Now, here it seemed too comfortable. They didn’t want to leave. It was a good place to be. But you know what, God had a bigger plan for them than being at Horeb, no wonder God told them they had dwelt long enough in that mount. A time had come to move out. The comfort was to be over. The pleasures of Mount Horeb if there were any at all had to end now! No more living there. No more sleeping there. There was need to move out. Why? God had better plans for the children of Israel.
